Gem we purchased at a livestock sale in December 2007, strictly
to keep her off the canner trucks.  She was weaned and sold all
at once.  Her dam was a blanketed Appy mare that I'm sure was a
sight in her day, but that day of the sale she looked as if she'd
given everything she had just to keep her foal alive.  It took
months to bring Gem up to weight with supplemental feeds, but
that daily contact with the feed bucket boosted her confidence in
people.  She should mature to at least 15.2HH and I'm sure will
make someone a great companion.  With the length of her
pasterns, she should be smooth riding too.  She is coming three
this Spring and will be lightly started.  She does have some
issues with heavy-handed handlers, but as long as you take your
time and stay soft and quiet, she never makes a wrong step.

These photos both are both of Gem as
a 2 year old, taken this summer.  She is
on pasture and still is the first one in
for treats.
